The Janazah Salah is performed when someone passes away and normally takes place in congregation within a mosque. The deceased is placed at the front near the Imam who leads the prayer.

Step 1
Niya – Intention
a. Begin by saying your intention. ‘I intend to pray the Salaatul Janazah for the sake of Allah to supplicate for the deceased’, facing the Kaaba.
Your intention doesn’t need to be said out loud, this just needs to be present in your mind.
b. Raise your hands to your ears.
Step 2
First Takbir
a. Say ‘Allahu Akbar’.
b. Whilst standing, place your hands on your abdomen, right hand on top of your left hand.
Step 3
Seek Refuge
a. Say ‘Ah owdu billahi minash-shaytaanir-rajeem‘
Step 4
Al-Fatiha
a. Recite Surah Al-Fatiha:
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.
Alhamdu lillaahi Rabbil ‘aalameen.
Ar-Rahmaanir-Raheem.
Maaliki Yawmid-Deen.
Iyyaaka na’budu wa lyyaaka nasta’een.
Ihdinas-Siraatal-Mustaqeem.
Siraatal-ladeena an’amta ‘alaihim;
ghayril maghdoobi ‘alaihim wa lad-daaalleen.
and end it by saying ‘Ameen’.
Step 5
Second Takbir
a. Say ‘Allahu Akbar‘
b. Raise your hands to your ears and then place your hands on your abdomen, right hand on top of your left hand.
During this Takbir, you can choose to raise your hands to your ears, leave them by your sides, or keep them folded in front of you.
Step 6
Durood-E-Ibrahim
a. Recite the Durood-E-Ibrahim:
Allahumma salli ‘alaa Muhammadin
wa ‘alaa ‘aali Muhammadin,
kamaa sallayta ‘alaa Ibraheema
wa ‘alaa ‘aali ‘Ibraheema,
innaka Hameedum Majeed.
Allahumma baarik ‘alaa Muhammadin
wa ‘alaa ‘aali Muhammadin,
kamaa baarakta ‘alaa ‘Ibraheema
wa ‘alaa ‘aali ‘Ibraheema,
‘innaka Hameedum Majeed.
Step 7
Third Takbir
a. Say ‘Allahu Akbar‘
b. Raise your hands to your ears and then place your hands on your abdomen, right hand on top of your left hand.
During this Takbir, you can choose to raise your hands to your ears, leave them by your sides, or keep them folded in front of you.
Step 8
Dua
a. In any language, make a generic or personal dua for the deceased.
Step 9
Fourth Takbir
a. Say ‘Allahu Akbar‘
b. Raise your hands to your ears and then place your hands on your abdomen, right hand on top of your left hand.
During this Takbir, you can choose to raise your hands to your ears, leave them by your sides, or keep them folded in front of you.
Step 10
Tasleem – Concluding The Prayer
a. Turn your head right and say ‘As-salaamu alaykum wa rahmat-Ullahi wa barakaatuh’.
b. Turn your head left and say ‘As-salaamu alaykum wa rahmat-Ullahi wa barakaatuh’.
Your Salah is now completed, Alhamdulilah.
